The British supermodel Kate Moss turned down the offer of celebrating on Richard Branson’s private island in favour of an intimate birthday bash in London with husband Jamie Hince and friends. Her 12-hour celebration began with lunch for around 30 guests at 34 Restaurant in Mayfair, with Kate’s line-up of celebrity friends including Stella McCartney, Nick Grimshaw and Sadie Frost.
Effortlessly cool.
Kate worked her signature casual yet cool style in a little black dress teamed with a leopard print fur coat and heels, accessorising with a baby pink clutch. Moving on to the China Tang at Mayfair’s Dorchester Hotel, the party then took over the private dining area for a spot of karaoke, with rowdy renditions of INXS and The Rolling Stones drawing complaints from other guests trying to enjoy a quiet, sophisticated meal.
Fizzy celebrations.
Enjoying 40 bottles of Taittinger champagne at around £130 a pop, it’s probably just as well Kate is friends with the restaurant owner Sir David Tang. Supermodel Naomi Campbell, one of Kate’s best friends, turned up fashionably late, arriving three hours after the start of the meal and missing the cutting of Kate’s 40th birthday cake, a simple iced Victoria sponge with ‘Happy 40th Kate’ on top. With the party finishing around 1.30 am, it seems like a pretty relaxed birthday for Kate, although the party may well have carried on at home.
