Mayfair has its own steady reputation in London – luxury, opulence and a place to be someone. There are places all over the planet with a similar vibe and today we’re going to take a look at possible ‘Mayfairs’ that can be found in the bustling metropolis of Toronto.
The recent prices of Canadian real estate have shot through the roof and you may have to win the jackpot at an Ontario online casino to be able to afford a house in some of the following neighbourhoods – but let’s see what they have to offer:
Rosedale
The neighbourhood of Rosedale is one of the gems of Toronto, with pristine streets that are lined with foliage and an incredible style of architecture rife throughout. The actual community is charming, thanks to the long-standing and rich history of the location. The streets twist and intertwine whilst giving a great feeling of privacy if that’s what you’re after.
Rosedale has a great combination of styles when it comes to the building: You have a mix of houses with heritage and history combined with more modern, newer condo-style buildings – all amongst vast parks and quaint green spaces. Amongst these parks, you have the vale of Avoca, Moore Park, the Rosedale Valley ravines and Park Drive.
For a long time, Rosedale was viewed as one of the most prestigious places to live in Toronto and plenty of wealthy families wanted to live there – not just for the exquisite surroundings, but also for the great private and public schools, easy access to different forms of public transport and ample leisure facilities such as shopping centres.
The average price of a detached family house is around a few million Canadian dollars, with a 7 bedroom, 5 bathroom house going for over CAD$ 8 million.
The Bridle Path
When a neighbourhood has the nickname “Billionaires Row”, you know it’s going to be decadent. That’s exactly what the Bridle Path is known as to the locals. It’s one of the most expensive places to live in Toronto and for good reason.
The community is chocked full of picturesque little walks and locations around the Don River Valley. This is one of the reasons it attracts such high-profile and wealthy patrons – some of the estates that these owners have are over 6 acres and have high-tech security systems.
On top of its picturesque features, Bridle Path has some of the best healthcare in Toronto, highly rated schools and high-end shopping centres. Residents can have a jaunt through the stunning Edwards Gardens – with its ponds, perennial gardens and rockeries – and then go for a quick shop and bite to eat.
The houses themselves are a mixture of styles dating between the 30s and 60s, with a huge number of them having luxury features such as statues, waterfalls, pools and even tennis courts.
The average price of a house in Bridle Path is around CAD$8 million and the average income of residents sits at around CAD$1.4 million. But if you feel like splurging out, the extra luxury houses in the area start at CAD$32 million.
Oakville
The last contender for the Mayfair of Toronto is the suburb of Oakville. The streets here are so pretty and delightful, hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the area every year purely to get a picture!
Both these visitors and the residents who live in the area enjoy many of the activities that are prevalent in Oakville: from dining in world-class restaurants and browsing the many luxury boutiques to outdoor activities such as fishing, bird watching, mountain biking and even boating.
Oakville has incredible healthcare centers, but that’s not all: there are a number of different art galleries, and stunning scenery in its many parks and even beaches. As you would expect, schooling is also top-notch. The downtown area of Oakville is also quite a significant cultural and art district, with amazing art galleries.
The waterfront properties are the real gem and are snapped up fast. The most expensive home ever listed in Canada was also located in Oakville – a country castle based on English architecture is listed for a cool CAD$59 million!
