A new bistro serving up a range of traditional British dishes has opened up on North Audley Street in the centre of bustling Mayfair. The GrEAT British Restaurant is a new enterprise from East Dulwich Deli owner Tony Zoccola, and George Hammer. A prominent member of the beauty business and the man behind brands including Urban Retreat and L’Occitane.
His inspiration for the business.
Zoccola summed up his inspiration for the business, saying. “A lot of people get a real flavour for a country by sampling the food. Apart from St John and Sweetings and perhaps one or two ‘old school’ restaurants that have been around for yonks. There wasn’t really a typical English restaurant. The waiters here have all got white jackets on. Like they would have done in the 40s and 50s so it is a very typical English atmosphere.”
An authentic taste of Britain to the heart of Mayfair.
The venture certainly does bring an authentic taste of Britain to the heart of Mayfair. Head chef Pete Taylor prioritises fresh, UK produce from small suppliers. His dishes include grilled kippers, Sussex cheese sausages with bubble and squeak, and parsley crusted cod. With such classic ingredients and a relaxed, informal ambience. The restaurant is bound to be a hit with everyone from tourists wanting to sample local cuisine. To British nationals looking for a comforting taste of home.
